Biotin is involved in the biosynthesis of fatty acids, in energy production, in the metabolism of branched-chain amino acids, and in gene expression. A deficiency of this B vitamin interferes with carbohydrate metabolism. There are preliminary studies that indicate the use of biotin to improve glucose metabolism.
